Aviation Group trip to the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton.
On Wednesday November 20th, 13 Aviation Group members visited the Fleet Air Arm (FAA) Museum at Yeovilton.
Most of us had been before but this time we had booked a guided tour. Our guide was Nigel, a retired Navy pilot who expertly steered us through the exhibits. He had a wealth of stories and personal reminiscences that added greatly to our visit. He introduced us to a series of Navy firsts and chronologically guided us from the very first flight from a ship, through the Great War, the Second World War, Korean War and Falklands campaign.
A number of members commented that this was one of, if not the best, tour they had experienced! All to soon it came to an end and everyone retired to the Warneford Café, named after the naval pilot who despatched the first German Zeppelin in the First World War, for lunch. Afterwards we were free to wander around the museum and take in more of the rich aviation history.
If you have any interest in aviation why not pop along to our aviation group meeting, 3rd Wednesday of each month 10am-12noon at Primley Church Hall, Primley Road, Sidmouth. We are a friendly bunch and would love to see you there.
