A Million Flowers

THE EXPLORING ART GROUP COMMUNITY ART PROJECT

We have embarked on an exciting new project!

I'm sure you all know about Keith Owen, the generous benefactor who left a large sum of money to the Sid Vale Association to be used for the benefit of the people of the town and surrounding area.

The money is distributed in the form of awards to organisations with a project in mind, and yes, we have been granted an award to finance our community artwork.

One of the benefits which Keith Owen envisaged was to "make a million flowers grow,” and this is the inspiration for our project.

Sidmouth School of Art "Wallspace" Billboard

The artwork will be printed and displayed on the Sidmouth School of Art "Wallspace" billboard sometime in early 2025.

It is intended to celebrate the beauty and variety of flowers in Sidmouth, not only in public plantings but also wild flowers, and to give people a chance to showcase the blooms from their own gardens.

We intend to involve as many people as possible, with everyone painting a flower, so that we will have perhaps not a million, but a large number of flowers.

Free Workshop at the Guide HQ on Lawn Vista

The previous workshops have been a great success, as can be seen from the gallery of flower paintings. There is now just one workshop date left, 17 August 2024.

The workshop is free and all materials will be provided, through the generosity of the Keith Owen Fund, so that people can participate even if they don’t have any art materials of their own. Alternatively you are welcome to paint your flower at home.

There are still places in the workshop on August 17th and children under 18 are allowed to come if accompanied by an adult family member, so why not bring a grandchild to paint a flower alongside you?

August 2024*Saturday 17th10.00-12.00

*The August date is primarily for families, so you can bring grandchildren as long as you stay with them
