13 November 2025: Birdwatching

Birdwatching Group: Along the Exe from Powderham to Turf Lock

The birders last trip out on the 13th was along the River Exe from Powderham towards Turf Locks.

We had an absolutely glorious warm sunny morning for once, squeezed in between a very wet day and Storm Claudia. I don’t know why such a nice name as Claudia was given to make a day so miserable. But it wasn’t our birding day so that was great.

We saw quite a few birds both woodland and wetland, and ended up with a list of 24 + 1 heard but not seen (list below).

One member also thought that “Children in Need” would be short of £20 when she saw a note floating in the river so with a dextrous foot (and a few on-lookers with bated breath) she fished it out of the Exe with a promise that it would be given to the BBC charity.

Thanks to Edward and Malcolm for the photos.

No video as, unfortunately, by the time Brian figured out how to use the video function on his phone V had shimmied down the embankment, snaffled the £20 note and bouldered back up again.
